Williamsport Police Seek Suspect in Fatal Teen Shooting Incident

Mayor says search for killer of 18-year-old man in Williamsport ongoing

Teen Shooting in Williamsport Under Investigation

Authorities in Williamsport are intensifying their search for the individual responsible for a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of one teenager and left two others injured on Monday afternoon. The police are actively pursuing leads, though new information remains scarce.

Mayor Derek Slaughter addressed the situation on Tuesday, stating, “We’re asking, of course, anyone in the public with any information, or do they have any videos, or anything, or even today, if you’re hearing anything, or seeing anything, let us know, reach out.” At this time, no further details have been disclosed.

Police officers arrived at the scene on the 1700 block of Memorial Avenue at 2:48 p.m., where they found three male victims aged 17, 18, and 19. The individuals were transported to a nearby hospital, and the 18-year-old male was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m., according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles Kiessling. The identities of the victims have not been released, but Mayor Slaughter indicated that the surviving teenagers are expected to recover.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have not identified a suspect yet. They urge anyone with information or video footage related to the incident to contact city police Agent Laura Kitko at 570-327-7558.

This shooting incident is the latest in a troubling pattern of violent occurrences involving young people in the region. Previous incidents include the killing of 15-year-old Ahmeen Palmer outside a TGI Friday’s in Loyalsock Township in March 2024, a brawl among juveniles during the July 4 celebrations in Williamsport last year, and an attempted stabbing at Lose Park in May. Additionally, a male juvenile faced charges for firing a gun into an occupied building on June 4, and a 14-year-old boy was accused of attacking a 17-year-old with a box cutter in Jersey Shore on June 21.

In response to the growing concerns over youth violence, county commissioners organized a forum in late May to discuss prevention strategies. Community leaders and citizens are urged to participate in ongoing efforts to address these critical issues.
