Goldhofer Inc. to Create 80 Jobs with New Facility in North Carolina

North Carolina’s January Employment Figures Released

Governor Josh Stein announced that Goldhofer Inc., a leading global manufacturer of heavy transport and airport ground support equipment, plans to create 80 new jobs in Catawba County, North Carolina. The German company is set to invest over $19.5 million in constructing its first North American assembly and production facility in Hickory. This move is anticipated to bolster the local economy and enhance the region’s manufacturing capabilities. The decision underscores North Carolina’s appeal as a hub for international business expansion, particularly in advanced manufacturing.

Goldhofer, with roots dating back to 1705 and formally established as a company in 1946, has evolved from a small forge operation to a leader in premium transport solutions. Headquartered in Memmingen, Germany, the company operates globally with approximately 1,000 employees and annual sales exceeding $350 million. Its product offerings include heavy-duty mechanical and self-propelled trailers for industrial loads, as well as towbarless aircraft tractors used by major airlines worldwide. The new Hickory facility will begin with an 80,000-square-foot production hall at Trivium Corporate Center.

Goldhofer CEO David Weinmann highlighted North Carolina’s skilled workforce, solid infrastructure, and supportive business environment as key factors in their decision to expand in the state. This sentiment aligns with the views of N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley, who emphasized the shared commitment to workforce development between German companies and North Carolina. The new jobs are expected to generate an annual payroll impact of over $4.7 million for the region.

To assist in establishing the new facility, Goldhofer will receive a performance-based grant of $200,000 from the One North Carolina Fund. This fund provides financial assistance to local governments for attracting economic investment and job creation, contingent on meeting specific job creation and capital investment targets. The project is supported by multiple partners, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, local educational institutions, and governmental bodies, all working collaboratively to ensure its success.
