Supreme Court Upholds Nevada’s Mail Ballot Laws Amid Challenges

Mail ballots in Nevada can continue to be counted after Election Day

Mail Ballot Procedures Remain Steady in Nevada Post-Supreme Court Decision

In a reaffirmation of Nevada’s electoral process, the state will continue accepting mail-in ballots up to four days past Election Day, provided they are postmarked by the deadline, as outlined in state law. This practice remains unchanged after the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss a challenge led by former President Donald Trump.

Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar emphasized the stability and security of the state’s election process in a written statement, saying, “Nevada’s elections will not change – we will continue to run safe, secure and accessible elections this year without the interference and intimidation of the federal government.”

Statistics from the June Primary highlight the popularity of mail-in voting among Nevada’s electorate, with 60% of voters choosing this method. However, only a small fraction of ballots—about 2% during the 2024 presidential election—arrived after Election Day.

In an effort to ensure timely collection and counting of ballots, election officials have started encouraging voters to return their completed mail ballots at least one week before the election.
