Library Board Faces Changes as New Appointment Looms
In a significant development for the local library board, Commissioner Alexis Hill recently revealed that the board will soon welcome a new member. This announcement follows a resignation that has left a vacancy needing to be filled.
During a routine meeting, Hill stated, “We have another appointment for the library coming up. We had a resignation.” This comment was in reference to Gianna Jacks, who stepped down with over a year remaining in her initial term. A county spokesperson confirmed this resignation to KUNR.
Jacks, throughout her tenure, became a controversial figure on the board. She was known for her alliance with Republican activists who aimed to restrict access to books featuring LGBTQ+ authors and themes. Additionally, she opposed various Drag Story Hour events and was against the continuation of library funding.
Recently, several community members accused Jacks of harassment following critical remarks made about her during public sessions.
As of now, the commissioners have not scheduled a date to appoint Jacks’ successor. However, they have already welcomed two new trustees earlier this month.
