What initially seemed like a regular Monday morning turned into a significant event for Jabril Walls. While driving through the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, she noticed a young girl walking alone in the street.

After taking her children to school, Walls was on her way to visit her grandmother when she encountered the alarming sight.

“I found her walking in the middle of the street,” Walls recounted.

Walls immediately pulled over, using her car to protect the child from oncoming traffic. The frightened 3-year-old ran to Walls, seeking comfort and expressing a desire to find her parents.

“I opened my car door and put my arms out, and she ran to me and said, she wants mommy and daddy,” Walls explained.

With the child in safe hands, Walls and her grandmother began a search to locate the girl’s family. The child shared a few clues, mentioning that her home was gray-and-white and that she had left her shoes at home.

The duo searched the local area and reached out to authorities for help.

“After not being able to find anyone, I took her to the fire station, contacted the police,” Walls said. “Everything was done.”

The efforts paid off, and the child was eventually reunited with her family.

Walls observed that the child looked healthy and well cared for, suggesting that the incident was a mere accident. She urged people to choose understanding over judgment.

“It takes a village,” Walls noted. “So I also extended my love to their baby and was able to be her guide. Because it takes a village.”

Reflecting on the incident, Walls expressed gratitude for being in the right place at the right time. She acknowledged the potential dangers the girl could have faced alone.

“Thank God that I was able to be there at that time,” she stated. “I’m just glad I was able to make the baby feel safe.”

The uplifting tale continued beyond the reunion. Walls remains in contact with the girl’s family and has been invited to celebrate the child’s birthday. She has also been affectionately named her unofficial godmother.
