In the picturesque Serene Lakes community near Truckee, one home stands as a beacon of wildfire preparedness. This residence, owned by Chase Cambron, has been awarded the Wildfire Prepared Home designation by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS).
Cambron’s commitment to fire safety is deeply personal. Having lost a home in the devastating 2017 Tubbs Fire in Northern California, he was determined to prevent history from repeating itself. “I created a zero zone with gravel. I installed vulcan vents on my eaves. Did defensible space per Truckee Fire inspections through Measure T,” Cambron explained.
Beyond these measures, the family took proactive steps, such as clearing surrounding trees and opting for a metal roof, all designed to minimize fire risk. Experts emphasize the threat posed by embers, which are a primary factor in homes catching fire during wildfires.
Truckee Fire authorities highlight that while individual efforts like Cambron’s are crucial, the most significant impact is achieved when entire communities collaborate. This collective approach helps prevent fires from spreading from one house to another, offering a robust defense against the encroaching threat of wildfires.
