It all began when eight-year-old Madeline Glynn was captivated by the sound of music emanating from next door. Her neighbor, Ethan Hayes, a 26-year-old musician, was on his porch strumming his guitar. Eager to hear a Taylor Swift tune, Madeline devised a clever plan rather than intrude uninvited.
Madeline crafted her song request on a piece of paper, folded it into a paper airplane, and sent it soaring over the fence.
Hayes noticed the note in his yard, thanks to a helpful tip from Madeline’s stepfather, Russ, visible through their window. The request was straightforward: could Hayes perform a Taylor Swift song?
Opting for “Love Story,” Hayes obliged with a heartfelt rendition.
Natalie, Madeline’s mother, captured the touching scene on her phone and shared it on TikTok.
The video rapidly gained traction, amassing millions of views and propelling the family into the spotlight with features in major outlets like People Magazine and NBC’s “Today Show.”
The most astonishing development, however, was quietly unfolding behind the scenes.
Taylor Swift’s team, Taylor Nation, had come across the viral video and discreetly contacted Hayes.
They wrote, “Hi Ethan. Taylor asked us to reach out after having seen your performance of Love Story for your sweet neighbor and would love to send something to the both of you.”
Soon after, a package arrived containing signed guitars and handwritten letters from Taylor Swift herself, complete with wax seals and her signature perfume on the envelopes.
“My mom saw the letter, and she started screaming, and so did I,” Madeline recounted. “I noticed that she signed it, and then I started screaming even more. My favorite, favorite part was her perfume she sprayed on it.”
The letter to “Dearest Madeline” was adorned with an autograph and a falling star drawn beside Swift’s name.
