Greensboro’s Initiative to Support Downtown Enterprises Against Vandalism
In a proactive move to assist small enterprises in the heart of Greensboro, city leaders have introduced a fund aimed at aiding businesses in bouncing back from acts of vandalism and property damage.
The initiative, known as the Emergency Stabilization Fund, is spearheaded by Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI). This fund is designed to provide financial support up to $2,000 for qualifying businesses needing to cover costs associated with incidents such as break-ins, graffiti, and other forms of unexpected damage.
According to Rob Overman from DGI, the program is not a reaction to a recent surge in vandalism cases. Rather, it is an effort to tackle an enduring issue faced by businesses situated in downtown areas. Overman explained, “Doing business in downtown is different than doing business, say, at Friendly Center or somewhere outside of the downtown core. And part of that ecosystem does unfortunately involve, you know, instances of vandalism and graffiti and other such things like that.”
Eligible participants in this program include street-level businesses with a staff count of fewer than 50 employees. The funds can be allocated towards expenses such as fixing windows, temporary board-ups, and hiring locksmiths.
Business owners interested in applying for this financial relief can find the necessary applications on DGI’s website.
