Gaining more than 500,000 votes over a 10-week period, the Mister Rogers stamp led by over 40,000 votes against the runner-up.

The Forever stamp’s reissue, accompanied by a new four-stamp souvenir sheet showcasing additional scenes from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” was unveiled at the Boston 2026 World Exposition and will become available nationwide on June 1.

“When we issued the Mister Rogers stamp in 2018, we ordered a print run of some 12 million,” said USPS executive Isaac Cronkhite. “Within just a few weeks, the stamps honoring this humble, softspoken man had sold out completely.”

The stamp’s popularity is hardly unexpected for many Americans.

Fred Rogers greeted countless children with kindness and understanding on his television show, known for its gentle exploration of complex emotions and relationships. Each episode of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood featured Rogers donning his famous cardigan and sneakers, guiding young viewers through life’s challenges.

In an era dominated by children’s shows focused purely on entertainment, Rogers addressed heavy topics such as divorce, grief, and self-worth, consistently affirming each child’s intrinsic value and worth.

“Although his show allowed him to speak to millions, his gift was communicating in a way that spoke directly to each child,” Cronkhite explained at the event. “He showed tremendous respect and compassion for everyone and knew how to nurture the best in all of us.”

Mail played a significant role in Rogers’ connection with his audience, as he frequently corresponded with children and families.

“Fred Rogers considered the space between the television set and a viewer to be ‘holy ground,’” shared Emma Lee, director of the Fred Rogers Institute. “The mail children sent to Mister Rogers, and his letters back, became an essential extension of that sacred connection.”

Born in Latrobe in 1928, Rogers transformed educational television, leaving a legacy that continues with programs like Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, which perpetuates his teachings of kindness and emotional intelligence.

The original stamp showcases Rogers with his iconic red cardigan, accompanied by King Friday XIII from the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Alongside the reissued stamp, USPS has released special collectible items such as writing kits, stamp pins, and memo pads.

Mister Rogers remains an enduring figure, symbolizing the timeless values of gentleness, compassion, and kindness long after his passing in 2003.
