BorgWarner Inc., a global leader in sustainable mobility solutions, is set to expand its operations in Henderson County, North Carolina, bringing 378 new jobs to the area. Governor Josh Stein announced the company’s plan to invest $100 million to vertically integrate its operations in Hendersonville, further cementing North Carolina’s reputation as a hub for advanced manufacturing. The expansion will add 140,000 square feet to BorgWarner’s existing site, supporting its business growth and increasing the state’s manufacturing capabilities.
The new positions at BorgWarner will include technicians, logistics personnel, and production staff, with an average annual salary of $67,047, surpassing the county’s average. This expansion is expected to create an annual payroll impact exceeding $25.3 million for the region. The project is partially facilitated by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG), estimated to grow North Carolina’s economy by $1 billion over 12 years. The JDIG agreement could reimburse BorgWarner up to $3,685,500, contingent upon meeting job creation and investment goals.
BorgWarner’s decision to expand in Henderson County, a Tier 2 classified area, will also direct $409,500 into the state’s Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account, aiding rural community infrastructure improvements. This initiative highlights the collaborative efforts of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and other local entities. The expansion underscores the state’s commitment to fostering a skilled and resilient workforce, while enhancing its competitive edge in the manufacturing sector.
