In an effort to connect with the community, Dr. H. Dele Davies, the priority candidate for the chancellorship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), is embarking on a statewide engagement tour. This tour, which plays a crucial role in the public vetting process, offers an opportunity for stakeholders to hear directly from Davies and provide feedback.
Named the priority candidate on May 6, Dr. Davies is scheduled to begin his tour on Wednesday at the Health Science Education Center II in Kearney. The tour will culminate on June 3 in Scottsbluff at Western Nebraska Community College. Over the course of the tour, Davies will visit various University of Nebraska campuses including those in Kearney, Lincoln, and Omaha, as well as UNMC facilities in Norfolk and Scottsbluff. For more details, visit the official announcement.
Dr. Davies expressed his enthusiasm for the tour in a press release, stating, “I look forward to engaging with the UNMC, NU and Nebraska communities in the coming days. Listening is at the heart of the chancellor role — listening to our faculty, staff, students, students, partners and communities across Nebraska, and to all those who count on UNMC to educate, discover and heal.”
This series of visits will allow Davies to outline his vision for UNMC’s future and respond to questions from the university community. NU President Dr. Jeffrey Gold highlighted the significance of these interactions, commenting, “I’m excited for members of our university community to have the chance to meet with Dr. Davies and hear his vision for the future of UNMC and the statewide care it supports, as well as to provide meaningful feedback on his candidacy for the next chancellor of UNMC.”
Having served as interim chancellor since 2024, Davies now stands ready for a more permanent role contingent upon the outcome of this engagement tour. Feedback from the public is encouraged and can be submitted online via the NU website until June 3. The Nebraska Board of Regents is expected to make a decision on the new chancellor by June 18.
