Southeast Community College Closes Campuses Due to Violence Threat

Nebraska's community college system sees fifth consecutive year of growth

Southeast Community College (SCC) took precautionary measures by shutting down its campuses in Lincoln, Beatrice, and Milford following a “threat of violence” received Friday morning.

In a statement on its official website, the college clarified that the threat was specifically aimed at the Lincoln campus. Despite there being no immediate danger or active shooter situation, the decision to close all SCC campuses and Learning Centers was made in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.

The Lincoln Police Department confirmed that they had identified and contacted the individual allegedly responsible for the threat. After their investigation, they concluded that there was no active threat to SCC and no arrest was made.

In addition to the main campuses, SCC also closed its learning centers located in Falls City, Hebron, Nebraska City, Plattsmouth, Wahoo, and York.

Although SCC’s spring semester concluded the previous week, a three-week summer session had just commenced. The college announced plans to reopen all affected locations by Saturday.

Details surrounding the nature of the threat remain unspecified. However, this incident coincides with a recent increase in “swatting” calls targeting Nebraska’s educational institutions and businesses. This month alone has seen similar false threats reported in Alliance, Lincoln, Kearney, and North Platte. More information on this trend can be found here.
