North Carolina Task Force Urges Stronger Child Safety Measures in 2026 Report

State Child Fatality Task Force releases annual report

In a year marked by ongoing challenges, the North Carolina Child Fatality Task Force has released its 2026 annual report, emphasizing continuity in its recommendations to state authorities. The task force’s assessment highlights a stagnation in achieving its goals, prompting a repetition of several past suggestions.

One of the primary concerns is the enhancement of passenger safety laws, particularly regarding car and booster seats, due to the significant impact of motor vehicle injuries on child mortality rates in North Carolina.

The report also brings attention to the troubling rates of youth suicide, advocating for greater support mechanisms within educational institutions. Additionally, it stresses the need for stricter regulations on nicotine vapes, cannabis products, and the influence of social media algorithms.

Another key recommendation focuses on boosting resources aimed at preventing infant deaths linked to unsafe sleeping conditions.

The task force plans to elaborate on its findings and suggestions during a webinar scheduled for May 26.
