Single Father Transforms Lives of 47 Foster Children

Growing up in an environment devoid of love and safety, Peter Mutabazi has devoted his life to ensuring foster children receive the affection and stability he once yearned for. A resident of Charlotte, Peter has taken in 47 foster children over the past nine years, embracing the challenging role of a single parent.

Peter, who had spent much of his life without children, finds immense joy in hearing the word “Dad” from the children he fosters. “It’s a joy (to hear) a kid say, ‘Dad!’ What, me?” he shares with a smile.
Known online as “Foster Dad Flipper,” Peter shares his journey through uplifting social media content that highlights the realities of foster care and adoption. His own past, filled with abuse and uncertainty in Uganda, serves as the foundation for his commitment to foster parenting.
“I think for me, I was one of those kids,” Peter recalls. “I came from an abusive family. I was unwanted, never felt safe at any time as a little boy.” These experiences fuel his dedication to provide children with the nurturing environment he lacked.
Recently, Peter shared significant news about the adoption of one of his foster children. In an emotional online announcement, he revealed that after 1,640 days in foster care, a boy named Jacob had officially become Elijah Mutabazi.

“Today marks 395 days since he first came into my life. Before that, he had already spent 1,640 days in foster care, a long and unimaginable journey of waiting, moving, and hoping for the place he could finally call home,” Peter wrote. “Today is Day 1 of a new chapter, as Jacob officially becomes Elijah Mutabazi. A name that represents not just a change, but a promise of love, of stability, of forever. Being adopted is more than a milestone; it’s the beginning of a lifetime of belonging, security, and unconditional love.”
In Peter’s home, every foster child is ensured a sense of safety, value, and love. Many who enter his life as Peter’s foster children eventually come to know him by another cherished name: Dad.
