Exposed Social Media Posts Reveal Pennsylvania Treasurer’s Stance on 2020 Election and Capitol Riots
Recently discovered Facebook posts have brought to light the views of Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who is seen questioning the validity of the 2020 presidential election and expressing support for the participants in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.
These posts indicate that Garrity, who is currently the leading Republican candidate for governor, might have been more supportive of the rioters’ actions and motives than was previously understood.
The January 6 rioters were supporters of former President Donald Trump, aiming to disrupt the certification of the election results. Trump has repeatedly made claims of a “stolen” election, citing alleged widespread voter fraud. During the riots, participants damaged property, attacked law enforcement, and vandalized the Capitol building.
As the events unfolded, Garrity’s 2020 campaign’s official Facebook page issued a statement condemning the violence and praying for the safety of law enforcement, although metadata reveals it was composed by a consultant.

In response to various comments defending the rioters, Garrity, from her personal Facebook account, referred to them as “patriots,” and mentioned attending a protest against the election certification the day prior.
“I am proud of our Patriots,” Garrity commented. “Just want to make sure our patriots, law enforcement, and soldiers are safe. I went to Harrisburg yesterday and spoke at the vets rally against what happened in PA in November.”
Another online user suggested the riot was a stand against “communism” and warned Garrity against becoming “part of the swamp” by not acknowledging this perspective.
Garrity replied, “I am not going to become part of the swamp! I spoke at the rally in Harrisburg yesterday condemning the election and lack of integrity. Just want to make sure that law enforcement and soldiers and our patriots don’t get hurt.”
She also agreed with a comment suggesting that the riot was instigated by outside influencers.
Garrity has a history of supporting Trump’s contested election claims. Post-2020 election, her campaign attempted to disqualify over 2,000 mail-in votes in Bucks County, a motion that failed in both the Commonwealth and Pennsylvania Supreme Courts.
In May 2022, Garrity appeared with Trump at a rally, asserting, “I’m telling you, this is the first time we had a Republican treasurer in 20 years, and the first time a Republican beat a Democrat incumbent since 1988, and I have President Donald J. Trump to thank for that. We know that he won.”
Philadelphia remains central to Trump’s fraud allegations, despite no evidence. Garrity supported these claims in an August 2024 radio interview, stating, “I think that there’s probably always been fraud in Philadelphia, and there always will be fraud in Philadelphia. It’s just a matter of what, to what degree.”
Independent inquiries and court cases have upheld the fairness of the 2020 election, confirming President Joe Biden’s victory by over 80,000 votes in Pennsylvania.
After beginning his second term, Trump pardoned all January 6 rioters and has sought to have their records expunged. Yet, in January 2025, Garrity stated to the Philadelphia Inquirer that she held no opinion on these pardons.
Garrity is currently running against the incumbent Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro.
