In a significant shift for University of Georgia’s women’s basketball, Ayla Guzzardo has been appointed as the new head coach. This announcement follows the recent departure of Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, who led the team for four years.
Guzzardo’s appointment comes on the heels of her impressive leadership at McNeese State, where she transformed the team from a 10-21 record to an outstanding 29-6 season, securing the program’s third conference title. Her remarkable efforts at McNeese State have been recognized as one of the top turnarounds in NCAA Division I basketball.
Prior to her success at McNeese, Guzzardo contributed to the Southeastern Louisiana women’s basketball program, where she guided the team to the 2023 NCAA tournament and helped secure two conference championships over her three-year tenure.
Guzzardo’s coaching journey began with the University of Akron’s women’s basketball team, and she also has experience coaching at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisiana.
The Georgia women’s basketball team, which concluded the current season with a 22-10 record and an early exit in the NCAA tournament, looks forward to Guzzardo’s leadership and expertise to steer them to future successes.
