Teams from Norway and Germany Set Up Camp in the Triad Ahead of World Cup
As the anticipation builds for the upcoming World Cup in June, the Triad region is bustling with activity, welcoming elite soccer teams from Europe. The Norwegian and German national teams have chosen this area as their temporary base.
Arriving in early June, the Norwegian team will set up their training camp in Greensboro, staying at least until July 1st, with the possibility of extending their stay depending on their success in the initial stages of the tournament. Their training sessions will take place at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, although their accommodation details are kept confidential for security reasons.
Meanwhile, the German national team is scheduled to conduct their practices at the W. Dennie Spry Soccer Stadium, located on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.
Richard Beard, President of the Greensboro Sports Foundation, expressed excitement about the region’s growing recognition in national and international sports circles. “We’re collectively going to brand the Piedmont Triad International Airport to welcome visitors from Germany and Norway,” he stated. “When any passengers get off, they will know that Norway and Germany are in the region.”
In addition to the training sessions, Norway plans to hold an open practice session at UNCG, with plans for a community watch party also in the works.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, spanning from June 11 to July 19, will be hosted across North America, drawing global attention and bringing international teams to various local communities.
