Senator Warnock Targets Corporate Ownership of Georgia Homes

Senator Warnock highlights legislation aimed at stopping spread of corporate-owned homes

Georgia’s Housing Market Faces Corporate Domination

The housing landscape in Georgia is experiencing a significant shift as large corporations increasingly acquire single-family homes. This trend has captured the attention of Senator Raphael Warnock, who is addressing this issue as it impacts potential homebuyers across the state.

Recent data reveals that over 25% of single-family homes in Georgia, accounting for approximately 70,000 properties, are now owned by corporate entities. Senator Warnock expressed concerns that this trend is increasingly sidelining first-time homebuyers. “Private equity and major corporations have been buying up thousands of single-family homes that should be available for Georgians who want to purchase a piece of the American dream,” said Warnock.

In response to this growing issue, Senator Warnock introduced the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act in March. This legislation aims to curb the mass acquisition of homes by institutional investors, seeking to promote housing reform and enhance affordability. Warnock mentioned, “I negotiated a provision in the largest bipartisan housing package in a generation that will put a stop to this madness by preventing institutional investors from purchasing massive amounts of single-family homes in Georgia and all across the country.”

Senator Warnock’s comments were made during a press event held in Paulding County on Thursday, where he reiterated his commitment to tackling the challenges posed by corporate-owned housing.
