Experienced Candidate Steps Forward to Fill Open Congressional Seat

An opportunity has emerged for a new congressional representative as the current officeholder decides not to seek re-election. This has prompted a seasoned politician to enter the race, promising to bring his extensive experience in local government to the national stage.

Why Enter the Race Now?

The vacant congressional seat presents a unique chance for a fresh face in the district. The candidate, who has a rich history of public service in South Lake Tahoe, believes he is well-suited for the position. His political career includes over a decade on the City Planning Commission and two terms on the city council, first completing a term in 1989-90 and later serving a full term from 2008 to 2012. “I’ve always been involved in politics, and I’ve seen where our country is going, and I have strong feelings as to where it should be going,” the candidate asserts.

Addressing Top Issues

A key concern for the candidate is the influence of what he calls the “administrative state” — unelected agencies that wield significant regulatory power. He cites the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency as an example, noting its 15-member board of appointees. “They’ve been passing regulations since they were established in ’69. I become more and more aware of how much Congress has delegated to these agencies,” he explains. The candidate argues these bodies exercise authority without accountability, diminishing citizens’ rights.

Another pressing issue is the high cost of food. While the candidate admits he doesn’t have all the answers yet, he emphasizes the need to understand and address the problem of escalating prices.

Representation Across Northern Nevada

To effectively represent the diverse district, which includes urban centers as well as rural and tribal areas, the candidate plans to prioritize communication and outreach. “I would have to travel a lot,” he says, highlighting the importance of engaging with different communities to understand their unique challenges. He is particularly interested in the concerns of northern Nevada’s mining communities, emphasizing that dialogue is key to effective representation.
