New Manufacturing Facility to Boost Greensboro’s Economy

In a strategic move set to enhance Greensboro’s industrial landscape, Lumentum Holdings Inc. has announced its plans to open a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in the city. The company, renowned for its technological contributions to artificial intelligence data centers, is poised to revitalize a former manufacturing site.

The California-based tech firm recently acquired a 240,000-square-foot facility on Piedmont Triad Parkway. Although the site is currently operational, it requires significant retrofitting to align with Lumentum’s specific requirements.

A statement from the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce highlighted the city’s appeal, citing its skilled workforce and robust infrastructure as key factors in Lumentum’s decision-making process.

Over the coming years, the facility is expected to secure over 400 jobs. This includes positions for engineers, technicians, and various corporate roles such as human resources and finance, marking a significant employment boost for the area.

Guilford County Commissioner Skip Alston praised the development as a “major win” for both local residents and the broader region.

Operations at the new facility are projected to commence by mid-2028, marking a significant milestone in Greensboro’s economic growth trajectory.
