Rep. LaLota Faces Scrutiny Over Campaign Donations Linked to Epstein

GOP Rep. Nick LaLota took $40,000 from Epstein associates

Political Contributions Linked to Jeffrey Epstein Draw Scrutiny

Republican Representative Nick LaLota, who serves New York’s 1st Congressional District, faces criticism after receiving $40,000 in campaign contributions from individuals connected to the late Jeffrey Epstein. The ties between these donors and Epstein were revealed in the Justice Department’s Epstein files, documents from a prolonged human trafficking investigation.

Among the contributors is billionaire Leonard Blavatnik and his wife, Emily, who donated $12,000 to LaLota between March and October 2025. Blavatnik’s name surfaced in the files due to his past associations with Epstein, including hosting events Epstein attended.

Although key names are redacted in the files, the Justice Department clarifies that these omissions protect ongoing investigations and the privacy of victims. Notably, President Donald Trump’s name was reportedly redacted.

The documents reveal Blavatnik was informed of an alleged rape involving investor Leon Black, also linked to Epstein. Despite these revelations, Blavatnik has not publicly addressed his connections to Epstein.

Other donors include Ronald Lauder, contributing $7,000 to LaLota in December 2025. Lauder’s name appears 443 times in the Epstein files, and he remains silent about these associations. Similarly, Anthony Ressler, who donated $7,000, is connected through family ties to Black. Emails suggest Epstein was tangentially involved in Ressler’s business dealings but did not respond to inquiries about funding.

Hedge fund manager John Paulson is another notable donor, giving LaLota $7,000. Paulson met with Epstein on several occasions and requested donations for events involving political figures like Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Epstein’s response to a donation request was, “50k from me. Hope PR is ok.”

Lutnick, facing his own scrutiny, previously claimed to have cut ties with Epstein after his 2008 arrest. However, the files contradicted this, showing continued interactions. “He said he knew Jeffrey Epstein was a despicable, abhorrent human being and had nothing to do with him, and then he partied on his island with his kids, with this guy,” commented Republican Rep. Thomas Massie.

LaLota, who supported making the Epstein files public, has not commented on the donations but is preparing for a re-election campaign. His Democratic challenger will be determined in the upcoming June 23 primary.
