Governor Josh Stein announced that TSEA Energy, a manufacturer specializing in energy equipment, will be establishing its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Rockingham County, North Carolina. The company plans to create 160 jobs and invest $25 million in the city of Eden, as part of its initiative to modernize the electrical grid. TSEA Energy has a long history in engineered solutions for power systems, with products active in over 50 countries. The new facility will focus on manufacturing voltage regulators, which are crucial for grid stability and reliability.
The new plant will occupy a 160,000-square-foot facility and is expected to double TSEA’s global manufacturing capacity. It will include an engineering and R&D center as well as a service center, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the U.S. market. TSEA CEO Beto Reynaldo emphasized the importance of the skilled workforce in the U.S. and the opportunity to support the modernization of the power grid. The average salary for the new jobs is projected to be $66,554, notably higher than the county’s average, possibly resulting in an annual payroll impact exceeding $7 million for the region.
To support TSEA’s move, a performance-based grant of $300,000 from the One North Carolina Fund has been provisioned. This fund assists local governments in attracting economic investments and job creation. The grant requires TSEA to invest $17 million and create 106 jobs to qualify for payments, with no upfront money provided. The fund also mandates matching participation from local governments for the grant to be awarded.
North Carolina officials, including N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley and N.C. Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger, expressed enthusiasm about the economic benefits and job opportunities the project will bring to the region. State officials, educational institutions, local economic developers, and utility companies have collaborated on this project, aiming to enhance the state’s manufacturing sector and energy infrastructure.
