Nebraska women blow 4th-quarter lead, fall to Baylor at NCAA tournament

In a nail-biting finish, the Nebraska women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end with a narrow 67-62 defeat against Baylor. The match, held on Friday, was a rollercoaster of emotions as the 11th-seeded Huskers initially led but couldn’t maintain their advantage.

Nebraska displayed a strong performance early in the fourth quarter, securing a nine-point lead. However, this echoed their recent experience in the Big Ten Tournament, where they let an 18-point lead slip away in the second half.

The game began with Nebraska in a difficult position, trailing 19-8 late in the first quarter. Yet, they made a remarkable comeback, outscoring the sixth-seeded Bears 20-8 to lead by a single point at halftime, with the score at 28-27.

The third quarter saw Nebraska extend their lead, outpacing Baylor 19-14. A three-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter further stretched their advantage to 50-41.

Nevertheless, Baylor mounted a formidable comeback, going on a 13-2 run to seize a 54-53 lead with just under four minutes remaining. They maintained their momentum, ultimately outscoring the Huskers 26-15 in the final quarter to secure the win.

Britt Prince was a standout for Nebraska, scoring 27 points. Logan Nissley contributed 11 points, while Jessica Petrie added 10.

Despite the loss, Nebraska capped off its season with a 19-13 record, having previously triumphed in a First Four play-in game against Richmond on Wednesday.
