Roy Cooper Launches “Make Stuff Cost Less” Tour in Asheville

In the vibrant setting of Asheville’s River Arts District, former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, who is campaigning as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, made a stop on his “Make Stuff Cost Less” tour. This tour is part of his broader initiative to address the affordability of living in North Carolina.

Cooper’s campaign efforts focus on alleviating financial burdens for residents throughout the state. On Wednesday, he discussed various pressing issues, such as the allocation of federal aid for Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene and the surge in utility expenses. A key proposal from Cooper is his call to prohibit utility companies from cutting off power during severe weather events.

“We have to do all we can to protect North Carolinians when they are at their most vulnerable, even when they haven’t been able to keep up with their bill payments,” Cooper emphasized during his campaign stop.

In the upcoming November elections, Cooper will compete against Michael Whatley, the former chair of the Republican National Committee, for the Senate seat currently held by Sen. Tom Tillis, who will not be running for reelection. This contest is anticipated to be one of the most closely watched Senate races in the 2026 midterm elections.
