Athens Nonprofit Hosts Major Fundraiser to Combat Domestic Violence
This weekend marks a significant occasion for an Athens-based nonprofit, as it prepares for one of its largest fundraising events. Project Safe is gearing up to host the renowned Dancing with the Athens Stars event on Saturday, March 21, at 7:00 pm. The fundraiser, which will take place at the Classic Center, aims to bolster the organization’s mission to combat domestic violence.
Executive Director Joan Prittie emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “It’s hard to overstate how important Dancing with the Athens Stars is to Project Safe.” Over time, the event has generated more than $1.9 million in net revenue, and there is a strong hope to surpass the $2 million milestone this year. This financial support has been crucial in facilitating the organization’s growth and outreach efforts.
Project Safe focuses on four primary areas to address domestic violence. These include crisis intervention to ensure immediate safety, ongoing supportive services for rebuilding lives, community prevention and education, and advocacy for systemic changes, including legislative efforts.
