Severe Weather Leaves Thousands in Wisconsin Without Power

Blizzard-like conditions have left a significant number of Wisconsin residents without electricity this morning. Power outages are affecting various parts of the state, with the southeastern region being the hardest hit.

We Energies reported that approximately 12,876 customers were powerless just before 8 a.m., with the majority located in southeastern Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, Alliant Energy’s outage map indicated that over 600 individuals experienced outages, predominantly in the Sheboygan area.

Wisconsin Public Service also reported power disruptions affecting 1,330 customers, with Door County being notably impacted.

The Madison area is not spared either, as Madison Gas and Electric confirmed that more than 370 people are currently without electricity.

Travel warnings have been issued across the state due to dangerous road conditions, and authorities have deemed numerous roads impassable. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s 511 website highlights that much of northeastern Wisconsin is affected.

Significant Snowfall Across Wisconsin

The National Weather Service has provided snowfall data for the last 24 hours, revealing that several areas have received substantial amounts of snow.

Sturgeon Bay in Door County has seen a staggering 33 inches of snow. In Wausau, a record-breaking snowfall of more than 20 inches was recorded on Sunday, with snow starting to fall overnight on Saturday.

Christine Salm, a resident of northern Wisconsin, remarked, “This is the most snow I’ve ever seen in my lifetime, and I’ve been in northern Wisconsin my whole life,” after measuring over 21 inches in her driveway.

Western parts of Wisconsin, including areas near Strum and Mondovi, reported over 20 inches of snow, while the Eau Claire region experienced accumulation exceeding 12 inches.

Due to the ongoing winter storm, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is urging drivers to avoid roads in the northwestern, north central, and northeastern regions of the state.
