Texas School Community Rallies to Gift New Car to Dedicated Crossing Guard

The community at Moss Haven Elementary School in Richardson, Texas, showed their appreciation for their cherished crossing guard by presenting her with a much-needed vehicle. After learning about her transportation struggles, the parents came together to gift her a car, ensuring she could continue her vital role without inconvenience.

Known affectionately as “Ms. Crawford,” Trecia Crawford is a familiar and comforting figure for many students and families. Besides ensuring student safety at the crosswalk daily, she greets everyone with smiles and knows many parents by name, becoming an integral part of the community.
Several months ago, Ms. Crawford’s car broke down, complicating her daily commute. Undeterred, she initially used ride-sharing services like Lyft and later switched to public transportation to continue her duties.
“I had to do what I had to do,” Ms. Crawford explained, highlighting her commitment.
The Dad’s Club at the school soon discovered her predicament. “We’re a group of dads that have all signed up to come together and better the students, teachers, and environment here at Moss Haven Elementary,” Luke Wagner, the club’s president, expressed to CBS News Texas.
Determined to help, the club reached out to the community through emails, seeking donations. The response was swift and generous, with several thousand dollars raised in just a few days.
Using the funds, the dads purchased a white Jeep for Ms. Crawford. Additionally, they took care of insurance, the title transfer, and scheduled a few oil changes to ease her transition.
This act of kindness was a way for the parents to thank Ms. Crawford for her unwavering dedication and the positive impact she has on their children’s lives every day. The initiative highlights that those who ensure community safety also deserve support in reaching their destinations.
