Lavonte Harvey, a postal worker renowned for his singing, was captured on video delivering more than just mail. Approaching a home, he greeted a resident affectionately as “Grandma” and began to sing, offering solace after the woman lost her husband of half a century.
The emotional performance was shared by her granddaughter, Whitney Cumbo, who posted it online with a heartfelt caption: “My grandmother lost her husband of 50 years, and the mail man is her daily dose of life. You are appreciated.”
The clip went viral, amassing millions of views and thousands of comments within a fortnight. “I didn’t expect for it to go viral,” Harvey shared, underscoring that his routine singing is about spreading hope and joy.
“For me, singing isn’t just music,” he said. “It’s about ministry, it’s about spreading hope and joy.”
Appearing on Good Morning America, Harvey expressed gratitude to Cumbo and her family for sharing his story. Their support enabled an online fundraiser that helped him purchase a new car.

“I love you guys so much. It’s because of you so many doors have been open for me that I’ve only dreamed of,” Harvey said during the interview. “There are not enough thank-you’s in this world that I can honestly say or give you guys. Just know that you have my heart, and I will always be here.”
Harvey maintains that his life has been remarkably changed, remaining in close touch with the family. His moment of kindness, intended merely to brighten someone’s day, has opened new opportunities and connections.
