Women Across the U.S. Caught in Lawsuit Scheme Over Pelvic Mesh
A significant number of women in the United States have become embroiled in a complex web of litigation against pelvic mesh manufacturers. These lawsuits have, unfortunately, been manipulated by a scheme that benefits everyone involved except the victims themselves.
Dr. Elizabeth Chamblee Burch, who holds the Fuller E. Callaway Chair of Law at the University of Georgia, has spent years researching this matter. Her findings are compiled in her recently published book, The Pain Brokers: How Con Men, Call Centers, and Rogue Doctors Fuel America’s Lawsuit Factory, released in January.
In a discussion with WUGA’s Emma Auer, Dr. Burch elaborated on her work and examined the implications for the future of personal-injury litigation.
