Nebraska Basketball Extends Winning Streak with Victory Over Minnesota

Huskers pull away from Minnesota for 24th straight win

Huskers Extend Winning Streak, Dominating in the Second Half

The Nebraska men’s basketball team continues to showcase its offensive prowess as they pulled away from Minnesota on Saturday, securing a significant victory and maintaining their impressive winning streak.

Ranked No. 7, the Huskers found themselves trailing 36-30 at halftime due to a poor shooting performance, hitting only 2 of 11 from beyond the arc. However, they turned the game around in the second half, outscoring Minnesota 46-21, resulting in a decisive 76-57 win.

This victory advances Nebraska’s season record to 20-0, including a 9-0 mark in the Big Ten Conference. Their success stretches back to last season, with the team now boasting a school-record 24 consecutive wins.

Leading the charge was Pryce Sandfort, who contributed 22 points and sank four three-pointers after the break. Both Sam Hoiberg and Jamarques Lawrence added 14 points each to the tally.

Nebraska had to adjust in the absence of redshirt freshman Braden Frager, a key bench player averaging over 12 points per game, who was sidelined with a sprained ankle. Despite a challenging first half, Sam Hoiberg provided a much-needed spark by scoring all of his 14 points, while his teammates struggled to find their rhythm.

Coach Fred Hoiberg expressed dissatisfaction with the initial performance, stating, “I didn’t like our first half,” during a post-game interview.

The game took a positive turn for Nebraska after slipping behind 40-32 early in the second half. The Huskers responded with a commanding 35-8 run, effectively securing their lead. Minnesota was unable to narrow the deficit to single digits for the remainder of the match.

Coach Hoiberg praised the team’s defensive efforts, noting, “I thought our defense was unbelievable in the second half.”

Looking ahead, Nebraska now prepares for a highly anticipated matchup against No. 3 Michigan on Tuesday night, which could be a defining moment in their season.

“We’ve got a hell of an opportunity on the road,” Coach Hoiberg remarked about the upcoming game.
