University of Georgia Suspends Operations in Anticipation of Severe Weather
The University of Georgia (UGA) has announced a complete shutdown of its campus on Monday, January 26, due to expected hazardous weather conditions, including ice and potential power outages. This decision affects all face-to-face classes, events, and activities scheduled for the day.
Given the likelihood of disruptions in power and internet service, the university has decided not to transition to online instruction. Faculty members are instructed not to assign any coursework for the day, acknowledging the impracticality of remote learning under such circumstances.
For essential personnel, identified as critical for maintaining university operations and supporting student needs, the expectation is to report to work unless travel conditions are deemed unsafe. These employees should reach out to their supervisors for further guidance.
Students residing in University Housing who left campus over the weekend are advised to wait for notification on the campus status before returning to their dormitories. An update regarding operations for Tuesday, January 27, will be provided early Monday afternoon.
For the latest information and updates on the situation, members of the UGA community are encouraged to monitor emergency.uga.edu and UGA’s social media channels, including UGA’s X (@universityofga).
UGA’s extended campuses will adhere to local advisories relevant to their specific areas. As the community navigates the ongoing effects of this winter storm, safety remains a top priority.
