Initially joining as a teacher and later transitioning to the role of school librarian, she has influenced countless students over the years. Many former pupils attribute her enduring presence and enthusiasm for education as a profound impact on their lives.
In an interview with CBC Radio, Akin expressed her love for her profession and her eagerness to begin each school day. “I loved my job. I didn’t mind getting up and going to school every day,” she stated.
The school not only served as her workplace but also became a second home. Akin remarked that as her family members gradually passed away, the school community embraced her, effectively becoming her family. She commented, “they more or less became my family.”
