The Kent County Animal Shelter shared Abby’s touching story on their Facebook page, drawing significant attention. “We received a special donation today,” read the post, displaying a photo of Abby’s letter and the donation itself. The community responded with enthusiasm, leading to a wave of matching donations and contributions in Abby’s honor.
One individual commented, “I shared this on TikTok, and a lot of people have matched Abby’s donation❤️ I wish she could see how many people think she’s amazing!!”
Initially, Abby’s simple gesture had garnered $700 by the end of the day. As the story continued to spread, more support followed.
Three weeks later, the shelter reported that donations had soared past $3,000, vastly exceeding their typical monthly donations. Alongside monetary contributions, the shelter received boxes of treats and toys, all sent in Abby’s name.
“We often say that kindness is contagious, and in this instance, it has never been more true,” said Kent County Animal Shelter Director Angela Hollinshead. “We really want Abby to see how amazing just a single act of kindness can be.”
