Former NFL Star Tony Romo Arrested for Alleged OWI in Wisconsin
In a surprising turn of events, renowned former NFL quarterback Tony Romo found himself under arrest Thursday night. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office reported that the ex-Dallas Cowboys player was apprehended on suspicion of operating while under the influence (OWI).
The 46-year-old Romo, who spent his early years in Burlington, was back in Wisconsin to participate in the esteemed Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament.
Authorities indicated that the former quarterback was stopped around 8 p.m. on Interstate 43 while heading south. His performance during the field sobriety test reportedly did not meet the necessary standards.
Following the arrest, Romo was processed and subsequently released from custody. Notably, Wisconsin distinguishes itself as the sole state where a first-time OWI offense is regarded as a non-criminal charge, typically resulting in a fine ranging from $150 to $300.
Romo’s journey from Burlington High School to the NFL is well-documented. After joining the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2003, he enjoyed a successful 13-season career with the team.
