US Commerce Dept. Pumps $1.3M into Santa Fe’s Economic Growth via Building Renovations

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.3 Million for Building Renovations to Support Economic Development in Santa Fe, New Mexico

The U.S. Department of Commerce has granted $1.3 million to the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD) in Santa Fe for building renovation to aid economic development in the region. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo has stated that this grant will also aid in the establishment of a new headquarters for NCNMEDD, backed by an additional $325,000 in local funds.

As part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, this award seeks to diversify, bolster local economies across the country and revitalize the work of NCNMEDD, thereby nurturing economic opportunity and growth. Secretary Raimondo believes this EDA investment will support future economic prosperity for New Mexico and across the nation.

According to Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo, this strategic investment in Santa Fe will provide the necessary business infrastructure that undergirds economic development, job growth, and business expansion in this region.

Local leaders have applauded the move. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has described the new headquarters as a “beacon of progress”, offering vital resources to local governments, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and prosperity across communities. Similarly, Senator Martin Heinrich and Senator Ben Ray Luján have expressed support for the investment, emphasizing its potential to connect working families with new career opportunities and grow the economy across northern New Mexico.

The investment, part of the annual appropriations bill, which was supported by Representative Teresa Leger Fernández, demonstrates the Biden Administration’s commitment to creating good paying jobs for Nuevo Mexicanos. The new office for the NCNMEDD in Santa Fe will continue to stimulate the local economy.
