The city of Tulare, California, is set to receive a $600,000 grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA), a sector of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The funding is intended for building renovations to stimulate business growth and aid startup expansion.
The grant will facilitate the establishment of a fabrication facility equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, and other advanced technology. This new center will offer small businesses the necessary equipment for prototyping and manufacturing novel products. The EDA’s investment will be supplemented with $210,000 in local funds and is projected to create approximately 72 jobs.
Alejandra Y. Castillo, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development stated that the EDA plays a significant role in helping communities realize their plans to supply the essential infrastructure demanded by businesses. She emphasized that this investment would offer a modern space where entrepreneurs can develop their businesses, which would lead to job creation and economic resilience.
California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, underlined that the state’s innovative and entrepreneurial spirit spans every region, from San Francisco to the Central Valley. He affirmed that this investment from the EDA in Tulare will promote economic growth and job creation.
Senator Alex Padilla stressed the importance of infrastructure that supports small businesses and entrepreneurs in enhancing the economy of the Central Valley. He voiced his support for the grant, stating that it would spur innovation and foster lucrative job opportunities for small business owners.
Senator Laphonza Butler lauded the EDA for the funding, stating that the provision of federal dollars to Tulare would create spaces that ensure small businesses receive the high-tech resources they require to strengthen local economies.
