Collin County Community College Receives $2M EDA Grant for Healthcare Infrastructure

The U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, today announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) will be awarding a $2 million grant for infrastructure improvements to the Collin County Community College District in Plano, Texas, to support the training of its healthcare workforce.

The grant will fund the construction of a new healthcare and instruction facility aimed at preparing students for local, in-demand jobs. The investment is set to be matched with $500,000 in local funding and is projected to create an estimated 4,000 jobs, according to grantee estimates.

“This vital EDA investment in Texas will support healthcare workforce development that enables job creation and economic growth, and saves lives,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. The initiative has been lauded by several key figures including Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and Senator John Cornyn.

This project is being funded under the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2023. This act provided the EDA with $483 million in additional Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) Program funds for disaster relief and recovery in areas that received a major disaster declaration from natural disasters occurring in 2021 and 2022. More information can be found on the EDA’s Disaster Supplemental webpage.
