Thermal Drone Heroically Rescues Missing Dog After 12 Days

In a remarkable rescue mission, a thermal drone played a pivotal role in reuniting Ulysse, a Hungarian wirehaired vizsla, with his owner Sam Boyle. Ulysse had been missing for an agonizing 12 days, but thanks to the tireless efforts of the Nottinghamshire-based charity, Drone to Home, the heartwarming reunion became a reality.

A Desperate Search Begins

Ulysse’s unexpected disappearance occurred on December 20th during a routine walk in Houghton Conquest, Bedfordshire. His owner, Sam Boyle, embarked on an exhaustive search, mobilizing search parties and combing the area. However, despite their best efforts, Ulysse remained elusive, leaving Sam Boyle devastated.

A Drone’s Lifesaving Mission

Hope was rekindled when the charity Drone to Home entered the scene. In less than two hours, their team launched a thermal drone equipped with cutting-edge technology to scour the vicinity for any sign of the missing dog. Their relentless search led them to a breakthrough when, on a fateful Sunday, they spotted Ulysse in nearby Haynes.

The heartwarming moment of reunion was a testament to the power of technology and human compassion. Sam Boyle, overwhelmed with emotion, expressed her gratitude for the drone’s role in Ulysse’s rescue. She is now spearheading a fundraising campaign to provide the charity with another drone, emphasizing the importance of this technology in locating missing pets.

Ulysse had found himself trapped in a hedgerow, his retractable lead tangled, rendering him unable to move. Despite his dire situation, he had managed to survive, albeit losing 10kg (22lb) in weight, surviving on sticks and twigs. Veterinary treatment was urgently needed to nurse him back to health.

Ulysse’s return home on Friday was a moment of sheer joy for Sam Boyle. She shared that his eyes were bright, and his tail was wagging with happiness. The successful rescue not only brought relief but also a renewed appreciation for the power of community and technology.

Drone to Home’s Chief Executive, Phil James, who spotted Ulysse, expressed his gratitude for Sam Boyle’s efforts to fundraise for another drone. He described his humbling experience and the vital role of drones in their ongoing missions, such as locating horses during heavy rainfall and flooding.

In this heartwarming story of technology, determination, and love, Ulysse’s rescue serves as a beacon of hope, highlighting the invaluable assistance that drones can provide in reuniting families with their beloved pets.
