Helping Parents of Young Children Reenter the Workforce Could Boost NC’s GDP by Up to $7.5 Billion

Provalus, an information technology outsourcing firm, has announced plans to establish a Center of Excellence in Wilkes County, North Carolina. The initiative is set to create 150 jobs and bring a $1.05 million investment to North Wilkesboro. Governor Roy Cooper praised the move, highlighting the state’s talented workforce and commitment to education and training systems. This development marks Provalus’ continued expansion in regions with a strong presence of rural and veteran communities.

The new Center of Excellence will involve the upfitting of an existing office space to meet increasing client demands in cybersecurity, application development, and network operations. Provalus President Mike Keogh emphasized the project’s role in boosting job creation and economic growth within the local community and the broader region. The company, a subsidiary of Optomi, LLC, aims to leverage local talent to drive its mission of revitalizing rural American areas.

Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders expressed excitement over Provalus’ expansion into Wilkes County, noting the success of North Carolina’s economic development strategies. The project will be supported by a performance-based grant of $150,000 from the One North Carolina Fund, contingent on the creation of 61 jobs over three years. The grant requires matching funds from local governments, with no upfront payments provided to the company.

State Senator Eddie Settle highlighted North Carolina’s reputation as a top business state and looked forward to the community’s role in aiding Provalus’ growth. The project is backed by various partners, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and local government entities, reflecting a collective effort to enhance regional economic opportunities.
