Winter Storm Expected to Bring Heavy Snowfall to Northeast Pennsylvania
A significant winter storm is on the horizon for Northeast Pennsylvania, with meteorologists predicting substantial snow accumulations over the weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) has indicated a 70% likelihood of the region receiving at least a foot of snow when the storm hits on Sunday.
During a recent webinar, Kaitlyn Lardeo, a meteorologist from the NWS Binghamton office, noted the high probability of snow, stating, “It’s almost certain that we’re going to see something, but how much is now the question.” She emphasized a 90% chance of at least 6 inches of snow, though confidence in precise totals remains low to moderate.
As preparations begin, a winter storm watch is in place from late Saturday night through Monday evening for counties including Bradford, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Wayne, Lackawanna, and Pike.
Prior to the storm’s arrival, the area will face frigid temperatures. A cold weather advisory has been issued from 7 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, warning of wind chill values potentially dropping as low as 25 degrees below zero.
