A quiet South Wilkes-Barre neighborhood has turned into the center of an intensive investigation following the discovery of a body over the weekend. Law enforcement, including the Luzerne County District Attorney’s office, has been actively working the scene since Saturday, drawing significant attention from the community.
Authorities have cordoned off the intersection of New Alexander and Charles streets. Investigators, some clad in hazmat suits, are directing their efforts towards an apartment building located on New Alexander Street.
Approximately half a mile from the crime scene, police tape remains around a wooded area on Thayer Street, indicating ongoing investigative efforts there as well.
District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce confirmed the discovery of a body and indicated that the investigation is active, noting that a search warrant has been executed. “We are unable to provide further details at this time,” Sanguedolce stated.
Efforts to reach Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes for additional comments on Tuesday were not immediately successful.
