Recounts to Decide Close Elections in Piedmont Triad Municipal Races

Recounts called for several Piedmont elections

In the Piedmont Triad area, several municipal elections are hanging in the balance as recounts are set to determine the outcomes of closely contested races.

Davidson County’s Mayoral Race

In Davidson County, a recount is scheduled for Monday in the Thomasville mayoral race. Incumbent mayor, Raleigh York Jr., is leading his opponent, JacQuez Johnson, by a narrow margin of 17 votes. Despite the tight race, Johnson is assured of continuing his service in public office as his current seat on the city council remains valid until 2027.

Forsyth County’s Tight Council Contest

Over in Forsyth County, the competition for a seat on the Walkertown Council is even more intense, with Anita Moody barely ahead of Vernon Brown by just one vote. The recount for this razor-thin race is set to occur on Thursday.

Alamance County’s City Council Decision

Alamance County is also preparing for a recount on Wednesday to finalize the outcome of its Graham City Council election. In this race, Jim Young is leading Randy Phillips, holding a slim advantage of less than half a percentage point for the final council seat.
