Publix Recalls Frozen Berries Due to E. coli Risk
In a recent food safety alert, Publix has initiated a recall for its GreenWise Organic frozen blueberries and whole mixed berries, citing potential contamination with E. coli bacteria.
The affected products were distributed to eight southeastern states, including North Carolina, according to the company’s announcement.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified this recall as Class I, indicating a high risk of severe health consequences or even death.
E. coli infections can lead to symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and vomiting. In more severe cases, the infection may result in kidney failure and other critical health issues. Currently, 12 individuals have reported illnesses linked to this outbreak, with nearly all cases occurring in Florida. Four of these individuals have required hospitalization.
Regulatory authorities continue to investigate the outbreak, and there is a possibility of additional products being recalled as more information becomes available.
