New Advisory Committee to Tackle Rural Healthcare Access in North Carolina
In a bid to enhance healthcare accessibility in North Carolina’s rural communities, state officials have unveiled a new advisory committee. This initiative, known as the NC Rural Health Transformation Program’s Advisory Committee, comprises over 40 stakeholders. These members hail from various sectors, including local organizations, healthcare providers, and elected representatives.
With more than 3 million residents in North Carolina’s rural areas, the committee’s mission is to address persistent healthcare challenges these communities face. According to Dev Sangvai, the NC Health and Human Services Secretary, engaging local communities is crucial for achieving the program’s objectives. Sangvai emphasized that the committee members would offer “real-world insight on access challenges, implementation barriers and sustainability opportunities.”
This committee forms a part of a broader state healthcare initiative, bolstered by over $213 million in federal funding. The inaugural meeting is scheduled for August 5 in Raleigh, with an open invitation to the public to participate either in person or via the NCDHHS YouTube page.
