Funding Boost for N.C. A&T’s Defense Research Initiatives
North Carolina A&T State University has been awarded a substantial grant of $10 million from the U.S. Department of War. This funding is dedicated to enhancing the university’s capabilities in defense-related research.
The grant, part of a broader five-year initiative, aims to establish a new research program named Accelerate-DAQ at N.C. A&T. This program emphasizes critical areas such as artificial intelligence and cyber resilience. By boosting its research efforts, the university is positioning itself to achieve the prestigious Research 1 status, a designation for top-tier research institutions.
Lisa Clough, Vice Chancellor for Research, highlighted that while achieving R-1 status would provide access to additional government funding, the primary goal is broader. She stated, “With investments like this by the Department of War, we want to be reaching out, being that amazing place to get your PhD, but also being that amazing place to make a difference in the Triad in North Carolina, across the country,” says Clough.
This initiative is part of a Department of War program designed to enhance research capacities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), reinforcing their role in advancing innovative research.
