Greensboro sees drop in violent crime

Greensboro’s Crime Rates Drop Significantly in 2025

In a notable shift, Greensboro has witnessed a substantial reduction in crime rates, with violent crime declining by 23 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year. This positive trend extends to property crime, which saw an 11 percent decrease, and traffic-related fatalities, which dropped by 28 percent.

To support ongoing crime reduction efforts, the U.S. Department of Justice has granted the Greensboro Police Department $500,000. This funding is intended to bolster initiatives aimed at further decreasing crime rates in the city.

Despite these improvements, police officials have highlighted persistent challenges. Specifically, they report that domestic violence remains a significant issue, accounting for a quarter of the city’s homicides in 2025.

Elsewhere in the region, Winston-Salem has also experienced a reduction in violent crime rates as of early December, indicating a broader trend of decreasing crime in the area.
