Gov. Stein Advises Caution: NC Prepares for Snow and Freezing Temps

Stein urges WNC residents to stay home ahead of winter storm

Winter Storm Alert Prompts Caution in North Carolina

As North Carolina braces for the upcoming winter storm, Governor Josh Stein has issued a warning for residents to avoid travel this weekend. The storm is anticipated to blanket much of the state with snow and bring freezing temperatures.

Though the threat of ice storms, similar to those experienced last week, is not present, the primary concern remains hazardous driving conditions. “So please, take a second look at your weekend plans,” Stein advised. “Stay home and off the roads during winter weather.”

In Western North Carolina, the situation is particularly concerning due to severe cold warnings from the National Weather Service. Stein highlighted the danger, remarking, “The temperature’s going to be bitterly cold – wind chill, maybe minus-20 degrees. Obviously, the risks of frostbite, hypothermia become very elevated when you have temperatures that low.”

For those who must travel, Stein recommends dressing warmly and ensuring vehicles are equipped with a well-stocked safety kit to manage any emergencies that may arise on snowy roads.
