Forsyth County Approves $500K for New Ashley Elementary School Project

Forsyth Commissioners approve $500,000 in bond funds for Ashley Elementary project

Funding Approved for New Ashley Elementary School Project

On Thursday, the Forsyth County Commissioners sanctioned $500,000 in bond funding to advance the construction of a new Ashley Elementary School. This allocation is set to address critical needs in the ongoing project.

A noteworthy portion of this funding, $50,000, is earmarked for acquiring a 0.26-acre parcel adjacent to the proposed site of the school. This strategic purchase is intended to circumvent the necessity for a costly retaining wall, which would have significantly increased expenses.

Concerns had been raised in previous meetings by some commissioners regarding the valuation of this land, which was initially bought for $19,000 in 2020. However, fresh data illustrating the expansion in size and nearly double valuation of the lot helped alleviate these apprehensions.

Chairperson Don Martin expressed his reassurance, stating, “Our own county tax value is closer now, way closer to the actual purchase price. So I’m feeling OK at this point.”

The remaining $450,000 from the bond will be allocated towards architectural fees and various construction services necessary for the development of the new school.
