Key Contests in North Carolina’s Municipal Primaries
As North Carolina gears up for its municipal primaries, early voting kicks off on Thursday, marking a pivotal moment for several local races. A notable contest is unfolding in Randolph County, where the mayoral seat of Asheboro is up for grabs.
Current Mayor David Smith has chosen not to seek re-election, opening the field to four hopefuls. Among those vying for the position are Asheboro Council Members Eddie Burks and Joey Trogdon, alongside candidates Brett Thompson and Jen Bucardo.
The competition is fierce not only for the mayoral position but also for the Asheboro City Council. Fourteen individuals have entered the race for the council, which will see the primary whittle down the contenders ahead of the general election in November.
Interestingly, many other races in Randolph County feature fewer candidates, meaning they won’t require a primary to narrow the field.
For those eager to cast their votes early, early voting will continue through October 4. Residents can participate at the Randolph County Board of Elections Office located in Asheboro.
