Davidson County’s Tight Mayoral Race: Latest Updates
In a tightly contested battle for Thomasville’s mayoral seat, Davidson County election officials gathered on Friday to evaluate supplemental ballots. This meticulous review shows incumbent Mayor Raleigh York Jr. maintaining a narrow 17-vote advantage over challenger JacQuez Johnson, according to the latest unofficial results.
The review process involved a detailed examination of 36 provisional ballots, with 26 gaining approval. Provisional ballots typically arise when a voter’s eligibility is uncertain, such as lacking a valid photo ID at the time of voting.
Davidson County Elections officials have shared these updated results with the State Board of Elections, ensuring transparency and accuracy in the electoral process.
With the gap between York and Johnson being less than one percent of the over 2,300 votes cast, the race remains exceptionally close. This slim margin allows for the possibility of a recount, should Johnson choose to pursue it.
